Hello,
Viral infections at this time of the year is very common and is likely causing all the problems with your child.
Cough syrups are best avoided and saline nasal drops are the safest.
However, if the breathing rate is high (more than 60 per minute) and the pulse rate is also high, it is possible he has acquired a viral chest infection like bronchioloitis.
You then must take him to your paediatrician immediately or ensure he is hospitalised as this viral infection can be quite severe.
If none of the alarming signs are present, newborns usually recover in 10 days from these infections. Please keep calpol syrup and some antihistamine syrup for the nasal secretions.
