Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor, My son is 2.10 months year old. Normally he passed motion freely but some times once in 15-20 days he had tight motions and cries a lot to pass it. Doctor suggested to use Dulcolax Suppository. He drinks water regularly and takes no junk food. Mostly we feed him with rice, fruits, biscuits etc. Please suggest us how to get my son completely cured against this.
Hi
Thank you for your query
Dulcolax suppositories help in passage of stools but i would not recommend it at 2.5 months. Such hard stools can be because of a fissure (crack near the anus). Make your child sit in a tub of luke warm water (Sitz bath) for 5 to 10 min two to three times a day. Apply a soothing ointment like SMUTH near his anus. If the child is breast fed exclusively then don't add anything. A simple laxative syrup for children like LOOZ or milk of magnesia will help. If you are giving top feeds, sweeten the contents. It itself acts as laxative. Try feeding honey to your child. For appropriate doses consult a pediatrician or pediatric surgeon. '
Hope that helps
God bless you
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Constipation children is usually related to dietary intake.
This is very good that you are giving no junk food.
I suggest you to increase fluid intake, give salads, give boiled green leafy vegetables so as to increase fiber in his diet.
You can give him sitz bath(make him sit in tub of lukewarm water) for 10 min.
