Small Child Having Severe Cold, Cough, Nasal Discharge. Taking Meftal-p, Calpol Syrup. Cure?
hello Doctor, My 20 month old dughter has severe cold and cough . she has a bad runny nose , wht should i give her. Today we went for her nebulisation twice with asthalin as there was a weezing sound when she cried. Also she waas running high fever so gave her Meftal-p and calpol syrup. But wht should we do about the runny nose ?
The common cold is infectious process which causes fever, cough and rhinitis (running nose). loratidine is on the counter available drug which can be used at a dose of 0.5mg/kg/day in a single dose for running nose. For fever you can use calpol however for infection you may need an antibiotic for which you are recommended to visit pediatrician.
For fever you can continue calpol syrup in prescribed dosage every 8th or 6th hourly depending on the presence of fever.
Give meftal-p syrup when there is a high grade fever, but both meftal-p and calpol syrups are not required at a time.
She needs syrups for her cough and cold, before that she needs physical examination by her Pediatrician to look for the focus of infection and her lungs for wheezing.
Therefore I advise you to consult Pediatrician for the assessment of her respiratory system and for the prescription of medication.
