Small Child, Coughing At Night. Taking Odimont-LC Twice A Day. Safe For Long Term Use?

My son is 9 yrs old . during the daytime he doesn t feel coughing but in the night (4.00 to 5.00) he gets disturbed with cough and its difficult to sleep. I give him odimont-LC in the night & in the morning. I am giving this syrup from 2 months . Is this good for him to give this medicine for such a period ? Is there any kind of side effects ? Please advise me.

Night time cough is a classical symptom of post nasal drip in these kind of children. This is caused by nasal blockage of the nose.This can be an acute problem or a complication of allergic rhinitis. Giving Odimont LC twice a day will not help. Odimont lc should be given once a day at bedtime preferably. Your child need an X ray of the sinuses, lateral X ray of the neck to exclude adenoid hypertrophy and a serum Ige level to detect his allergic levels in blood. I think your child needs a nasal decongestant at night before sleep. Though Odimont LC has no side effects it should not be continued beyond 3 months.
