Small Child, Continuous Nasal Discharge, Congestion, Sneezing, Dry Cough. Cure For Symptoms?

Hi, just wondering if I should be concerned, my 16 mo old has had a very runny nose , congestion and sneezes last couple days with no other symptoms. Just today as his nose seems to be getting better I noticed him dry coughing here and there. Is this a normal part of having congestion or is this something else? Also, is there anything I can do to keep his cough from developing?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

It is not unusual for children of this age to develop upper respiratory tract infection in the way you have described. Most of the time you would not have to give him medication but once in a while he may require decongestants and even antibiotics. Observe him for the next day or two, give him steam inhalation and if there is no improvement then he may require medical supervision and medicines accordingly.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son an early recovery.

Hi
Thanks for your query.
your child is having respiratory infection which is mostly viral in nature and settles in few days.
I suggest you to give anti histaminic like benadryl for few days.
Give steam inhalation for 10 to 15 minutes.
Give plenty of fluids warm water will be soothing.
Give him balanced diet so as to increase immunity.

Wishing your baby good health.
God bless.
