Skin Tag Removed From The Anus. Stitches Not Healing. Any Medication Without Side Effects?

Hello, I have just had a skin tag (one week ago) removed that was reasonably close to my anus entrance. I had dissolvable stiches. On the second day it split open. I went back to the surgeon (tho a different one) and with a quick look said 'yes it has split and usually we leave the wound to heal openly anyhow.'
Ok, that's fine. But I was prescribed Rectogesic and I was just right now about to use it and it said to stick the ointment up my bum. But I don't need it up my bum and I have never had anal fissures.
So now I am confused. I really dont want to use this $50 cream when the instructions on it and the use for it seems unrelated to my removal of skin tag that has now split and have an open wound.

So what is the answer. Do I use this or should I go for a second opinion and see if there is a healing cream that's would seem more related and not have the nasty side affects that I have just been reading.

Sorry didn't realise that there was a cost. And in American dollars. I've just spent $120 NZ in a day to get a unrelated cream so I will just go to the chemist and ask the pharmacist.

Thanks anyhow.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your surgeon has advised you correctly. If the wound splits, needs to get healed by its own (open). This a natural process. Any cream, ointment or suppositories will disturb this process and paradoxically will make healing process longer.
That is why I suggest you to do not use any medicine and leave it to the nature.
You may help with healing keeping it clean and dry. You should wash this area after every stool and at least once a day. Washing should be done with water and soap only (sounds simple but it really works).

Hope this will help.
Regards.
