Skin attached between tonsils and uvula, filled with clear liquid, increasing size, noticeable on swallowing, had migraine recently. Suggestion?

Hi, I have a mass attached to the skin between my tonsils and uvula . It is filled with clear liquid and doesn t hurt at all- I don t even have a sore throat . However it is getting larger and is noticeable when i swallow . It is about a cm long, but its more like a ball shape attached by a smaller piece of skin. I ve poked it with a toothbrush etc but cant pop it, and it doesn t hurt to touch. Two days ago i did have a massive migraine (possibly a result of a chronic sinus issue?) behind my eyes/in my temples, and this just appeared today. Is it something draining? Will it go away? should i get it looked at?

Hi,

Noted the history well and understood the concerns. You have a non-typical presentation of headache with pain behind the eyes and temple hence need for MRI study of brain and arteries. Clinical evaluation by a Neurologist to know the exact diagnosis and thus go for proper management.

As for the swelling between uvula and tonsil, this seems to be edema and occurs most probably due to a condition called angio-neurotic edema.
Usually settled on its own o a short course of an antihistamine and steroid will most probably resolve it.

If this does not help then further opinion of an ENT or Oral surgeon can help for the diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,

Hi. My name is Wendy. I m in my early 20s and for months now I ve been suffering with presyncope - lightheaded, feeling heavy , unsteady; I ve been nauseous (feeling like there is a lump in my throat but there isn t... I know because I ve had an endoscopy done and a barium swallow - both negative) and I dry heave very often from this sensation, and I feel like my eyes are out of focus. I don t know how to explain it. I guess it s kind of like it s hard for my eyes to concentrate on something, like they re straining. Also, I ve been diagnosed with migraines years ago and have been on numerous medications for it. I ve also been diagnosed with chronic tension headaches. I feel shaky, and I do have hypothyroidism. I m on levothyroxine for it. I usually feel very hot at night and cold in the morning. Sometimes I feel hot during the day but my skin won t necessarily feel warm. I have difficulty concentrating. I m tired almost all the time, even when I get enough sleep. I usually sleep between 4-7 hours a night, typically. I ve realized that when I wake up, I have so little energy but at night when I should be tired, is when I have the most amount. I ll be alert and energetic. And a problem I ve suffered with every day that has caused a lot of problems is that I have a really heightened sense of smell. Even things that most people think smell fine makes me nauseous and make my head hurt. I don t know where else to turn to find answers. I hope you can help me. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.

My husband, age 55, emits a very forceful snorting sound at the end of each breath, at the end of words, while eating, all the time. The only time he doesn t make this sound is when sleeping. He was told in the past that he had a very large uvula and I don t know if he is snorting it out of the way when breathing. I also thought it was VPI. Sometimes he snorts four, five, or six times in a row. He can control it for a few minutes when confronted but most of the time, he just continues making it. I don t know if speech therapy would help him breathe and control this sound.

Age 38, Female. 5' 7'', 130 lbs. Hello doctor, I am a chronic worrier and hypochondriac, and for the last couple months I am convinced I have throat cancer. Yes, I am a smoker and I tend to smoke more when I am nervous about stuff like this. Used to drink and party in my 20's but now I barely touch alcohol. It all started about 2 months ago, had this funny "ache" right below my left ear. Could barely feel it, but it was enough to make me start worrying. It's weird, but it almost seems worse when I have an empty stomach. (I also have acid reflux.) Just a couple days ago, I noticed the tonsil on the same side as the pain (left) has about 3 white dots on it, one looks kind of raised and inflamed. Then that little flap after the tonsil (right next to the uvula) has 2 tiny, tiny pimples on it, same color as the tonsil. I have no sore throat. The pain in now regular ear pain, like when I get my ear infections. I showed my throat to my Mom who is a nurse, and she said it's nothing, just infection. My tonsils are both about the same size. I talked to my Uncle who is a doctor, and he said I'm too young for throat cancer, that my voice would be hoarse if I did, and the whole thing sounds like a virus that settled in that general area. But I still don't believe anybody. Oh, and the more I get scared and concentrate on it, the pain gets INCREDIBLY worse in my ear...it starts stabbing and pinching. When I settle down and tell myself it's not cancer, the pain almost goes away. Tylenol also knocks the pain out for hours. (???) What do you think is going on? I DO still have the white dots on the tonsil and the 2 little raised bumps.... Thanks!!
