Should Strep Throat Be Handled By Emergency?

I am a nurse practitioner in an acute walk-in clinic. My clinic partner refuses to see patients who have strep throat if they have difficulty fully opening their mouths ; she sends them to urgent care or the ED. Is this truely considered an emergency in the absense of the inability to swallow spit or breath well?

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
Any patient with infection in the head neck region with difficulty in mouth opening or breathing associated with swelling in the neck region can be because of the space infection in the neck. So this can apply pressure over the respiratory tract and can result in difficulty in breathing. If neglected this might cause death also. So it has to treated immediately with IV antibiotics or incision and drainage.
I hope I have answered your query. Take care
