Should Medicines Be Taken For Fasting Glucose Level Of 136?
I had gestational diabetes while pregnant 2yrs ago. I was taking insulin 4 times a day about 4-5 units a carb. After I had my baby my sugars decreased for about 3 mnths then they starting rising again so my dr started me on metformin 2 a day at a lo dose. I lost wait and was watching my sugars they seemed to be getting better so I quit taking the meds. It has now been about a year and for the past couple mnths I have been feeling funny again so I have been testing again and I had a fasting glucose done at it was 136. Do you think that I will have to start taking meds again?
I'd recommend you to go for a detailed investigation including Hb1C. If you go for routine exercises and strict diet control, you might not need to start meds. Diet control does not mean giving up eating. It means having a healthy diet with lots of fibre, high protein and low on carbs. For a detailed customised diet plan you may even consult a dietician. After doing all this, show your reports to your doctor and he/she would best be able to tell whether you require meds or not.
