Hi I am Diabetic from past 3 years. I am taking Glimy 2 before breakfast and Vozuca 0.3M (Metformin 500+Voglibose) before lunch and dinner. My HBA1C is 6.9%. I am controlling my diabetes with proper food and oral medication. When detected HBA1C was 8.6%. Over a period of time my oral medication may not work, Can I start insulin now (long acting like lantus solostar 10 U/0.2xweight 74 kg=14U before night) after stopping glimy 2 and Vozuca 03.M. I am 37 male. My mother is also a diabetic and taking insulin regularly. I am checking HBA1C every three monts and I am not let this go above 7. I am well aware of the disease. I do 40 minutes morning walk every day which cobers approx. 3 km. Now I know that by stimulating beta cells with glimy I am able to manage diabetes. But over a period of time beta cells will be tired or damaged and that time I must switch over to insulin. My question is switching over now will help. With lantus can I save the balance 50% beta cell to avoid diabetes related complications in future. Please guide me.
