Should I Take Injection Solimedrol For SNHL In Ear?

I got SNHL in left ear a week back, with approx 70% hearing loss. Now i have been prescribed heavy dosage of steriods and others namely, -Tab Famcyclovir , Tab Wysolone , Tab Necsium , Tab Vertin. Also adviced for Inj Solimedrol. Now i have 2 querries. 1) Will these steroids and other medicines leave a side effect on my body. 2) Should i go for this Injection which will be injected in my ear thru eardrum after local anaesthesia. I have good faith in the doctor who had prescribed me the medication, but still confused with these two points. Please advice and help.

Hello

Thank you for trusting HCM

Dear In any case of sudden deafness, the treating physician is the one in the best position to make treatment recommendations.

"If all other factors are equal, oral prednisone remains the standard treatment. Oral treatment costs substantially less and causes less discomfort than IT(intra tympanic) treatment," he noted. "However, if there are medical contraindications to oral steroids, IT treatment is equally effective."

Many doctors have begun to prescribe simultaneous combination therapy with both oral and IT treatment. "We know this exposes patients to both sets of side effects, but we do not know if it improves hearing outcome.

So both are equally effective and but not adviced at a s time to avoid side effects. Invasive techniques are little risk please consult your doctor he will examine decide right treatment to you.

Take care
