Should I Meet A Doctor After Having Gray Clay Like Bowel Movement?

My husband has had a gray clay like bowel movement. No other unusual symptoms at this time. He took pepto bismol 5 days ago. Could this affect him so much later? How many light clay like stools can you have before considering it serious needing emergent medical attention?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The clay stool is a side effect of Pepto Bismol only.

Consume plenty of liquids, high fiber diet and avoid further doses of Pepto Bismol; the bowel consistency and color will turn back to normal within 48- 72 hours of the last dose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
