Should I Be Concerned About The Fluid Filled Bump On Back Of My Baby S Head?

I have a two month old baby and he developed a fluid filled bump on the back of his head. It doesn t bother him but it is on the larger side. Is this something to be concerned about? Should I have him checked out? The research I have found that other around the same age have it happen to them too. They were vacuum babies and c section babies which mine had an attempted vacuum then c section. Thanks!

Hi there,

Thank you for choosing healthcaremagic.

As you mentioned that your baby has a fluid filled bump on the back of his head and also that he was attempted vacuum.

There are certain physiological conditions that happen due to the process of giving birth especially more common with vaccum delivery like cephalhematoma or caput succunedeum and these are usually noticed around the time of birth and by 3-4 weeks resolve on their own.

But since you mentioned that your baby is 2 month old, the likelihood of the above are less especially if not noticed at birth. There are other possibilities that can cause a fluid filled bump, like infection or bleeding in the scalp and for that he needs to be evaluated.

I would suggest you take him to his pediatrician to be evaluated soon.

Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
