Should Contraceptive Pills Be Taken Regularly At The Same Time?

I went to get the contraceptive pill like last month and my doctor said don't start taking it until your next period and start on the sugar. Any so lastnight I got my period and I took the first sugar but that was like at 11 o'clock at night, and I was thinking that you know how your meant to take the pill all at the same time every night, it wouldn't really matter what time I took the sugar ones? Because I don't exacly want to be taking the active pills at 11 o'clock at night, so once I start the active ones, can I take it the time I think would be best and continue to do that everyday? Can you do that if you've taken just the sugar pill at like 11 at night?
