Should Both Magnesium Citrate And Enema Be Taken Before Getting A Colonoscopy Done?

Hi, I am scheduled for a colonoscopy and the hospital (Kaiser) gave me a list of things to do before and after. They have told me to take 1 gallon of magnesium citrate and 1 fleet enema. My question after talking to a few friends of mine who have had colonoscopy's just recently is do i need both the magnesium citrate and the fleet enema? My friends only had the magnesium citrate.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Just to know the exact pathological condition as long as your clinical symptoms are concerned, it is necessary to do this examination with dye and other things like enema. These will give the correct picture of colon and pathological changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain Shaikh
