Should antibiotic eye drops be used for redness in the eyes?

I had seen my eye doctor a couple of days ago because I thought I had a contact stuck in my eye.He examined my eye and said the contact was not in there and used one antibiotic drop at the office. For the last day I used rewetting drops as instructed. Now the eye is pink and painful. Afraid it’s pink eye.Should I call the doctor back or start antibiotic drops I have for a past problem with pink eye?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

A bottle of eye drop opened once cannot be used for more than a month . so avoid the last eye drops . Also you should get your eyes checked because pink eye has a number of other differential diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

My toddler has had a one red eye that only covers half of his eye for several weeks now. It clears up a little sometimes but then goes back to being red on the one half. No discharge or light sensitivity. Antibiotic drops and medicine has not helped. His doctor is now saying to use Zaditor and to see eye dr. if this does not clear it up by in a few days. Is this just from allergies or could it be more serious?

Hi, I have pink eye in both eyes and yesterday, I accidentally got hit in one of the eyes with a sharp piece of ice. I felt a little bit of pain right after but I didn t see any damage done to the eye. A few hours later I noticed a red blob on the edge of that eye right in the place where I got hit. I got eye drops with antibiotics in them yesterday before getting hit with the piece of ice. I m not sure if I should keep using the eye drops with the red blob still being there, or if I should go visit the doctor again. Do you have any suggestions?
