Should A Person Be Hospitalised For Bipolar And Major Depressive Disorder And What Likely Would Be The Time Frame?

Hi, husband has been off Lovan for two weeks now for Bipolar and Major Depressive Disorder. I am concerned but he has indicated his Psychiatrist will agree with his choice as he feels it is not working for him. Will he be hospitalised and what time frame would be likely?

Dear User,
Thanks for posting a query at healthcare magic.
It is not necessary for a patient of bipolar to be hospitalized for treatment.
Both of these conditions can be treated on Out patient basis.
But if the patient has real danger of harming self or others than admission in hospital is indicated.
In other conditions when patient do not respond to standard treatment than also your doctor can decide to admit you in hospital.
If your doctor planning to administer ECT than also admission is better than OPD treatment.

Usually it needs one to two weeks to get response from treatment. So be prepared for at least one week although it may take much longer than anticipated.
Thanks
