Should A Neurosurgeon Be Consulted For Persistent Back Problems?
I want to get a second opinion on by back, I have had surgery on in the past and need to see a Dr. again, the surgeon I saw in the past is retired. Should I see a neurologist or a neurosurgeon? I am looking for a Dr. at the barnes jewish hospital (it is one of the best hospitals) in st. Louis, MO. My primary doctors says he wouldn t know who to recommend, would you be able to recommend a good one to me? Thank you, Jackie Chumbley

I would first recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and performing a column CT scan, in order to investigate if there is need for surgery or for medical treatment. The next step would be consulting with a spinal surgeon, if there are serious damages to your vertebral column, which can not be treated with medications.
