Greetings, welcome to HCM. Thank you for your question. I understand your concern.
Well, if we are talking about the
LDL fraction of cholesterol, and your doctor has observed that you have other risk factors for cardiac disease, then he had his opinion to keep it around 100 mg/dL. My opinion is that this does not apply for the
total cholesterol, as your total cholesterol (if it is not LDL fraction) of 134 mg/dL is totally fine. If
simvastatin was inserted in your treatment regimen because your cholesterol was high (e.g. over 220 mg/dL), then this means you have
high cholesterol levels, and simvastatin should be continued. At this moment, I would recommend to halve the dosage, and take it only 10 mg once a day. Also, if you are not physically active, I would recommend you to engage in physical activity for 60 minutes a day, seven days a week. Three months later, check your blood cholesterol levels again, and if they are maintained by low-cholesterol, high-fibre diet and by the physical activity, we can discontinue the simvastatin.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. Best regards.
Dr. Meriton
