Should Libotryp Be Taken Continuously To Treat A Sleeping Disorder?

I am a 27 , male IT professional. I have been with this filed for the past 3.5 years . In the beginning of my career around 2 years ago I had some stress problem and I was hospitalized .I was prescribed Nexitos and Lonazep (.5 mg ) . I continued this medicine for 6 months and till I feel better . During this period my BP was seems very abnormal 110 / 190. Doctor called it as young hypertensive. Doctor prescribed some hypertensive medicines , but I didnâ??t have that time , I thought of reducing it through exercise and jogging. But unfortunately it was not workout and I was again prescribed Olmax-H (20 mg)and Nebicard 2.5 mg . I have been using this medicine for the past 1 year . Now my BP is under control. But ,Now a days again stress & anxiety came into my life and its started to block my sleep. But not in that much bad way as I was suffering 2 years ago. I consult a general physician and he told its insomnia and prescribed Libotryp for 30 days. So I just want to know the following queries
1. what are the side effects of this medicine .
2 Since I am not affecting the sleeping disorder frequently , whether I have to take it daily continue till 30 days or when ever I am not getting good sleep I have to take like that ? Could you please advice?

Hello
Welcome to HCM.

Libotryp contains amitriptyline and chlordiazepoxide.

Amitriptyline can cause constipation, dry mouth, blurred vision and dizzines.

Chlordiazepoxide can cause sedation and has habit forming tendency when taken for long term.

In my opinion, you should take these drugs only when needed. I would not recommend its daily usage for sleep.

For stress and anxiety, you should practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation.

Please discuss with your doctor about dose alterations.

Thanks.
