Should I Worry About Infection After Accidentally Getting Pricked With A Needle That Was Used By A Hepatitis Patient?

My uncle is diabetic, hypertensive and has hepatitis too. Today, after checking for his sugar levels, I accidently prick the same needle into my finger. What should i do in this situation?

Hi,

Please wash your finger with soap and running water. Go for HCV and HBsAg tests and HBsAg antibody titre. If you have not been vaccinated earlier and hepatitis titre is low, you would be requiring immediate vaccination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
