Should I Visit The ER For Blood In Urine And Severe Cough While Treating Sinus Infection And Bronchitis?

I m post-op for an umbilical hernia. And currently battling bronchitis and a sinus infection. I had a really bad coughing fit a little bit ago now I m peeing blood. Can this wait until tomorrow for me to call the doctor or do I need to go to the emergency room?

Hello,

You are passing blood in urine, severe cough. You are under treatment for sinus and bronchitis infection. Since you have bronchitis, do continue to take the medicines prescribed by your treating doctor. Get a follow up clinical examination done so that severity of infection can be detected and treated,

You should get repeat imaging tests done) if required. Get X-ray PNS done to detect any nasal septum that requires treatment by surgery, you will be accordingly treated. Get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done as you are passing blood with urine. Visit ER, get examined and get required blood tests and imaging tests done.

Blood in urine is indicative of infection in urinary tract (UTI), bladder, kidney. Stones in the bladder or kidney. Kidney disease, cancer, etc. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and the severity of the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
