Should I See An ENT For Dry Cough While Suffering From Ectasia Of The External Jugular Vein?
I'M A 76 YEAR OLD WOMAN AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A ECTACTIC OF THE RIGHT EXTERNAL JUGULAR VEIN. THE VEIN PROTRUDES WHEN BREATHING OUT AND/OR BEARING DOWN AND RETRACTS TO NORMAL WHEN AT REST. FIRST OFFICE VISIT TO A THORASIC DOCTOR WAS IN JAN. 2018. HE MEASURED IT BY SONOGRAM. RECENTLY I RETURNED TO THE SAME DOCTOR BECAUSE I NOTICED AN INCREASE IN ITS SIZE. HE SUGGESTED I RETURN IN IN 3 MONTHS. IT IS PAINLESS BUT I FREQUENTLY FEEL THE URGE TO CLEAR MY THROAT AND HAVE HAD A DRY COUGH FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. HAD 2 BREATHING TESTS AND BOTH RESULTS ARE CLEAR. YESTERDAY HAD AN ENDOSCOPY AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF GUT ISSUES. RESULT WAS ALSO GOOD! SHOULD I SEE AN ENT FOR THIS PROBLEM? YOUR THOUGHTS? PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS.
Prominent external jugular vein may be due to ectasia. Ectasia of the external jugular vein is a rare and benign condition.Conservative approach is recommended in asymptomatic patients and surgery is reserved for patients with complications.
Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your ENT /physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
