Should I Refrain From Smoking Before Getting Rhinoplasty?

I am getting rhinoplasty this thursday. My doctor told me not to smoke two weeks prior. I am not a smoker. I had one cigarette to smoke socially, and this is 5 days before my surgery. Will the nicotine show in my blood tests on thursday? How long does nicotine usually stay in your system?

Thanks for using healthcaremagic.I understand your concern.
Brief answer:Yes,it is advisable.
Detailed answer: If i am your family physician, would advise you to refrain from smoking before 2 to 4 weeks of any elective surgical procedure as it may interfere with and complicates the surgery like increased bleeding, increased risk of arrhythmia etc. However half life of nicotine is around two hours,so it should be cleared completely of your system in 48 hours if you didn't smoke anymore.Hope this information helps you.If any other questions, happy to answer you.Take care
