Should I Be Worried About Short Term Or Long Term Effects Of Risperdal?

I am worried that I may have accidentally taken a 1 mg. tablet of my son s Risperdal (Risperidone), thinking it was a baby aspirin. I have a little case in my purse with over the counter medicines (Tylenol, Advil and baby Aspirin) in it. One of the last times our son was traveling with us, to a family wedding, I put a few of his Risperdal in there, just in case he lost his bottle which he had packed with his things or he forgot to take his medicine in the morning and we were away from his bag. About 40 minutes ago, I went to get a baby aspirin from that case and I m afraid I took the only one of his Risperdal in the case, initially thinking it was a baby aspirin. I am worried about side effects. I don t take any prescription medications at all. I am 60 yrs. old. Do I need to worry about short term or long term effects?

Hi,

Resperidone belong to a class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics, used in autism, bipolar and schizo. Usual side effects are drowsiness, headache, agitation, weight gain and upset stomach. But you don’t have to worry. Just wait for the drug effect to wean.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
