Should I Be Concerned For The Knot In The Head Which Occurred When Bumped Into The Wall?

Hello I am concerned. I hit my head on the wall where the molding is around a door frame saving my child from falling off the changing table. He was not harmed I was the one that took the impact. I had lunged to catch him and fell into the wall. I felt a spider web of heat where the impact was. After I didn't do anything. I felt fine no pain other than a knot on my head. The next day I had no pain but it was hard to sleep on that side where the knot was though. I had intercourse the next day and after I got a little headache. I didn't take anything I put a cold pack on the knot of my head. That night I slept it off and I felt fine the next day. No memory issues or loss of consciousness I only have trouble trying to sleep on that side. If I do I feel a little uneasy and have to turn. Like I start to get a headache but when I do I turn or sit up and it goes away. I don't feel a knot anymore just an indent and it is tender like a bruise. Should I be concerned or should I continue to drink lots of water and keep off that side for a while for the knot/indent to heal? Add heat or cold compress? What do you suggest?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The knot in the head is due to accumulation of fluid and blood (hematoma).
The blood cells accumulated are eventually broken down and absorbed in the body.
But this is a slow process & takes times to disappear completely.
Till that time, symptomatic relief is obtained by taking analgesics like Diclofenac+ Serratiopeptidase preparations, ice compression & adequate rest.

If it still persists or there are any other associated symptoms like vomiting, loss of consciousness, convulsions, etc...then it will be better to consult your Doctor.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
