Should I Be Concerned For Pregnancy Report Which Says CULTURE - No Growth, Microscopy Consistent With Genital Contamination ?

I am pregnant, I did a urine test to screen for HIV, hepatitis etc which all came back clear but the last page in my results says CULTURE - no growth, microscopy consistent with genital contamination... What does this mean? My doc didnt mention any infection or anything, should I be worried?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

First of all, a urine test is not how you test for HIV or hepatitis. In terms of the reading of the culture, it is negative for infectious bacteria as indicated by the comment "no growth". It is not uncommon for a culture to grow out normal vaginal bacteria. This is often indicated by a comment such as "genital contamination".

I hope that this helps and good luck!
