Should I Be Concerned About The Sore Breasts, Itchy Nipples That Do Not Go Away With The Menstruation?

I have been experiencing sore breast for the last year recently they have become swollen and more tender. I had my tubes tied in 2010, I don t take in a lot of caffeine or salt, haven t had any weight gain in 6 months. Stress has been at an all time low for us lately. I exercise frequently, and wear supportive bras, still not understanding why breast are bigger and sore sometimes with itchy nipples no discharge, soreness goes into armpits and doesn t go away with menstrual cycle. Is this something I should be concerned with?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

These are common perimenstrual symptoms and it is quite common in young girls.

Nothing much to worry and no definite treatment is required. As of now, you can take drugs like mefenemic acid for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
