Should I Apply A Cold Or Hot Compress To My Swollen Ankle?

Hello, I have had a swollen ankle for about a week. I think I bent my foot while doing an aerobics class. I can walk fine, but it does bother a little and I m afraid to do any exercise now. What can I take to reduce inflammation, and should I apply hot or cold compresses?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ice is the recommended treatment for acute injuries. It is especially helpful to reduce swelling and control pain. Ice is most effective when it is applied early and often for the first 48 hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
