Should Aviane Be Taken While Experiencing Vaginal Spotting?

I am currently taking birth control (Aviane, 0.10mg/0.02mg). I decided I wanted to skip my period this month because I was under a lot of stress and didnt want to deal with it. So far I ve taken 9 pills and have 12 pills left until I reach the placebo pills. However, I have spotting (both red and brown) since the 3rd day that I started the pack. Im not sure what to do because I dont want this to ruin my cycle. Should I continue to finish the pack and take the placebo pills? Will I get my period and everything will be regular again? I dont plan on trying to skip another period just so I know whats going on with my body.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Taking oral contraceptive pills for a prolonged period can lead to breakthrough bleeding and spotting. I will suggest you to stop the pills now, let the periods occur properly and your period date will be counted from now.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
