Shin Injury, Blue Patch. Ibuprofen Taken. Broken Tibia?

Hi. I went for a swim in a hotel pool 12 hours ago. When I got out, I hit my shin hard against the side of the pool. It was painful and swelled up halfway between the knee and my foot. I elevated my leg and put some ice on it on and off for two hours. After that I walked to a store to get some ibuprofen. It hurt to walk initially but after a few minutes the pain largely went away. I still took some ibuprofen. This morning, 14 hours after the incident, the swelling has largely gone down and there is a blue patch about 3cm across. There is a mild ache there. Do I need to seek medical attention? Could I have broken my tibia?

Hi ! From the history, it does not seem that there is any fracture of tibia. In case of a fracture, you could not have walked down to the chemist shop for your medicines, the swelling would have gone up instead of coming down and the pain would have also increased without getting subsided with ibupruffen. The persisting blue discoloration is due to the bruise and hematoma formation at the site of injury, which will subside gradually may be in two to three weeks time. If the pain or the swelling increases however, you may have to see an orthopedician for further opinion and needful. Take care.
