Sharp Pain And Fever, Swollen Hand After Getting Stitches On Knuckles Of Index Finger. Is This Normal?

Hello,
I received some stitches on the knuckle of my index finger, that was 3 days ago.
After 12 hours from the treatment I experienced sharp pain along with the fever , which I treated with regular over the counter paracetamol pills ( 2x 500mg) When I woke up fever was gone but I repeated same amount of painkillers after 24 hours as the pain persisted. I'm felling pretty ok right now , no sharp pain , so I stopped pills, however my hand appears swollen right now which gives me a bit of a worry. I was wondering if this is a normal reaction to anesthetics or treatment itself ( or stitches themselves, dissolveable in my case ) ? I did not take any antibiotics so far and I want to avoid it at all cost. I'm in London, UK and over here they left my wound unstitched for 4 days before a surgery, the worst thing is that my hand was healing ok until treatment received. I would appreciate your answer as I hate to have only one opinion about my health, especially in the country where Paracetamol is consider a miracle cure for everything, Also facing my doctor in couple of days which I'm sure will try to persuade me to take antibiotics ( I haven't touched those in 17 years) Just wanted to know the expected reactions of my body In case of treatment I received and when I should start getting concerned.
Best Regards, Brodie.
Thank you.

Hello, so, in summary, it is a case of a minor surgery (stitches) followed by pain and fever and than swelling, I afraid that this might be a case of infection, where probably you need to take antibiotics and reopen the wound. I strongly advice you to see your doctor as soon as possible to rule out any chance of infection. This might be a case of simple reaction but if it is infection, it can spread create more problems. I understand your concern about antibiotics, but these can be life saving and help you to get better.
