Sex Drive Lost, Difficulty Getting Erection, General Lethargy And Body Joint Aches, Discomfort In Abdomen. Diagnosis ?

Hi, i am a 56 year old male. My concern is one of a delicate nature. Here goes! I will list my symptoms as they have happened__ Approx 2 years ago i consulted my Doctor regarding my total loss in sex drive, and also difficulty getting an erection, general lethargy and general body joint aches. At that time the Doctor checked my prostate and siad while it appeared slightly enlarged, appeared ok. He also sent bloods for testing, which again appeared to show no obvious problems. I have been on medication to regulate my blood pressure for the last several years. at that time a was embarresed to say to him that on the few occassions i attempted sexual contact that when i ejaculated, i felt very little sensation at all, during this. And that is still the case to date. I have had to get up about every night 3-5 times to urinate, for the past few years. Now for the past few months i have felt discomfort in my abdomen when sitting (like a swelling), particularly driving with a seat belt on. Now in the past few weeks, i also feel this while sitting, (i can only describe it like a pressure i think on my prostate). Can you please advise of anything i can take to alleviate this pressure, and could you suggest what may be the underlying problem? I woulld be most gratefull for your opinion. Kind regards, AAAA

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Explanation to your first half of the question :- Generally as the age advances, testosterone levels in the body falls leading to a decrease in libido (sexual drive). One more reason to be attributed to loss of libido in your case is prolonged usage of antihypertensive medications which will lead to sexual dysfunction and generalised weakness. This is especially true if you are using "thiazide diuretics & beta blockers" as your antihypertensive medication.
Coming to the second part of the question, benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a normal degenerative condition seen in elderly individuals. I advise you to consult a urologist to get clarified about your symptoms.
Hope this helps
