Severe Oral Biofilm Infection Containing Influenza, Strep Stains. Prescribed Cephalosporin. Had Side Effects With It Previously. Alternative?

I have a severe oral biofilm infection that contains influenza, and strep strains predominantly (roughly 60%. with the influenza at 40%, plus many others not identified. Now I have a severe rash on my cheek. The dermatologist gave me omnicef, which I think is a cephalosporin. I had to quit taking rocephin, another cephalosporin, in the past because I was getting non-healing sores. What class of antibiotics should I take?

Hi,

Yes, you are right, omnicef (cefdinir) is a cephalosporin. If you had a previous experience of allergy and if you are having signs of allergy; stop taking it. Please bare in mind to refer to the doctor that you have allergy to cephalosporins in future.

If you are not allergic to penicillins, can take amoxycylin/clavulonate together with metronidazole; this is what I usually prescribe to my patients. Azythromycin together with doxycyclin are other choices. However, should consult physician for the right doses according to your current infection.

I also ask for culture and sensitivity to determine the exact antibiotic.
