Severe Edema In Ankles, Feet, Calves. Having Infection In The Roots Of Tooth. Taking Antibiotics. Is This Causing Edema?

I have severe edema in ankles, feet and calves of legs----take Diltiazem ER 60 mg. every 8 hours. I was in ER three days ago--had BP of 221/100---was treated with Nitro gel paks placed over heart and given injection of Lasix via IV and oral potassium. I stayed overnight in ER quarters---by 6 AM, BP was 164/77---edema was only slightly improved---was released with RX of Lasix and liquid potassium. No improvement--significant, i.e.. Something is causing the edema which left in April, after I received via IV Avalox for Pneumonia--did not re- turn until 6 months later. I have infection at root of a tooth---root canal was hurriedly performed and abcess formed/then cellulitis/given Cipro for one month---X-ray still reveals the infection is present at base of root. I will see periodontist next for implant. Is this root infection possibly causing an ongoing infection within my body---causing cellulitis in my legs, causing my BP to soar---usual BP is as low as 140/80 when there are -0- infections within my body ? Please advise re. my situation--would like to remove cause of edema/high BP Can I pay via telephone, using charge card-??--hesitate to enter charge info in computer/was just diagnosed with 60% virus---had removed by Geek Squad ! Please save my question. I plan to call USA Customer Service to see if I can pay by phone- will do on 11-23-2013- is almost midnight on East Coast----Thanks ! Thanks, Esther P.

Hello and welcome.

After reading your history I can suggest you few things related to your oral health as I am a dentist your rest of the problems can be addressed by your physician.

First thing to be noted here, is any case of Blood pressure and diabetes leads to delay in healing wound. Also this spreads the infection readily in body.

There fore mere treating the tooth wont help much please get the cause treated first.By cause I mean, it could be high Blood pressure and blood sugar.

After that automatically the cellulitis can be treated by giving antibiotics and if required drainage.

Thus please treat the cause first ,secondly pleas do not go for any new dental treatment until your Blood pressure and blood sugar are under control.

Hope it helps.
Thanks.
Take care.
