1. Your main problem is of Productive cough (Mucus with cough) so problem lies in Lower Respiratory Tract, unless proved otherwise.
2. Morning cough could be due to Post nasal drip (sinus problem), Asthma, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), smoking, or use of medications, are these causes been ruled out by the health care provider with relevant X-rays and Endoscopy?
3. any Addiction or allergy related problem??
4. avoid too cold, canned and processed and spicy food, carbonated drinks, vinegar, pickles, ice creams, take vitamin C and A rich diet which acts as powerful Immunomodualtor, along with honey, ginger, garlic.
5. talk with your health care provider about the same.

Ayurveda Specialist Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpaul's  Response
Usually cough is the problem associated with lungs or upper respiratory infection. Some times irritation starts from stomach and extends to pharynx thereby triggering cough bout. As you are having history associated with diet so in your case the cause lies in stomach. Aid your digestion, be regular in meals, avoid spicy and stale food. Use of antacid and anti flatulent will act as supportive medicines to cure your cough.
