Severe Cough, Sputum, Lack Of Sleep. On Strepsils, Benadryl. What Will Help?
Hello Sir. This is Abhinav. My age is 26 years. I live in Delhi.
My problem is that i am suffering from severe cough from last one month. Sometimes it becomes severe and sometime it is light. In morning and in evening, there is lot of cough with choking of throat due to bulgum. Due to this, i am unable to take proper sleep.Earlier, i have consulted 2 or 3 doctors, they have prescribed me some medicines, but condition of cough and choked throat become little down after taking medicines but it is not ending. I am taking cough syrups like benadryll, honeytus etc. and Strepsiles & Alex Logrenges now but i am not getting relief. Please provide me proper medication.

Hi abhinav,
You have a cough with sputum and hence drugs like benadryl and honeytus will not help for they suppress cough.
What you need to start is a cough syrup with bromhexine or ambroxol. Start syrup Bricany 2tsf 3 times daily and tablet Azee 500 mg for 5 days.
Also if u have a cold then you should also start tablet levocet 5 mg daily for 10 days

Persistant cough with sputum production for more than 2 weeks especially in India is an indication to test for tuberculosis.
I'd advise you to get a sputum examination done.
If you are a smoker quit smoking right now. Smoking predisposes to COPD. And cough and sputum production which increases in night is an early sign of it.
Please revert with sputum results and for further queries.
