Severe Cold, Sharp Pain During Coughing Spells Under Rib Cage. Help?

I have had a bad cold for the past week, Deep coughing now that seems to be improving, I just had a coughing spell and there was a sharp pain, just under the right rib cage. a stabbing pain quite sever. it now hurts to cough and i have to hold that area but it is still very painful when i cough. No pain, unless i cough.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
You have suffered a Viral infection and still having cough,this may be due to involvement of pleura a membrane out side lungs if they are inflamed they rub against each other and cause severe pain with cough and deep inspiration.
Please visit a Physician and get yourself examined for preurisy if required a X ray may be required and proper treatment with analgesic, antibiotics and cough supprasants will help to recover in few days.
It also depent on cause of infection we need to rule out Tuberculosis also in such cases.
