Severe Anxiety. Continue Xanax?

Not going to go to a psych that gives me powerful drugs, serouquil, resperidol, zyprexa..I see the side effects and they're driving me to hurt myself or people. I went in to get xanax, something i've been on before, and since June, I have been on every "Big Pharma" drug you can think of. I have severe anxiety. The damn drug xanax was NOT habit forming, nor did I have to take it for weeks and weeks at a time. No Dr's want to prescribe me xanax. I think their patent ran out and the "board of psychiatry is being pushed by the FDA TO patent more psychotropics. I can't take it anymore. Have had tests and probed and locked up. These drugs are killlling me!!!!

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. I would call 911 and let them know your concerns. There is also a mental health helpline 1800 273-TALK that can help with your concerns and direct you to the right resources. It may be worthwhile talking to your health insurance to find out which other psychiatrists are covered under your current plan and what would be the best bang for the buck in your case, so as to obtain a second opinion. I hope you try these things before walking yourself into the ER and getting and emergency psychiatric evaluation done, which may what this might all lead to, however I would keep fingers crossed and hope for the best. I hope this helped.

Take care and have a lovely day!

Psychiatrist Dr. Sundar Gnanavel's  Response
Hello.......
Thanks for your query. Even if xanax/alprazolam was not habit forming in your cases, it is meant to be only a temporary solution for your anxiety symptoms. The treatment of anxiety disorders consists of:
1. Anti-anxiety medication like SSRIs
2. Psychotherapy techniques like CBT/cognitive behavioural therapy
Yoga/meditation/breathing relaxation exercises might also be beneficial in your case. However, i agree that antipsychotics like seroquel/risperidone might not be required for you. Wish you good health.
Regards
