hi, I just had a stress test ECG for a life insurance policy and I noticed over the doctors shoulder that he wrote 1.5mm ST depression on the screen. He didn t explain to me what this meant. Is it a problem? I am 45 years old; 180cm and 79kg. My resting heart rate was around 75 and my max heart rate was 150 on the stress test. I had no pain on the stress test and it lasted about 15 minutes. I have had many ECGs in the past and have been told by several cardiologists that I have a slightly abnormal heartbeat however it is no cause of concern. The last time I did a stress ECG (about 6 years ago) I had to do an ultrasound test after which came up ok. Should I be concerned?
Yes, one should definitely be concerned... ST segment depression has several reasons – the most significant one is from reduced blood supply from thickened arteries (Ischemia / Coronary Artery Disease) / especially down-sloping, more than 1 mm and 80 millisecond from J point... Absence of symptom is no proof of absence of disease You will need more investigations – very likely an Angiogram... Ask the doctor
Take care Wishing speedy recovery God bless Good luck
