Redness with pain on the butt of a child. Could it be due to pin worms?

I have a 5 year old foster son who has home visits. A few weeks ago there was a child line due to the 6 year old brother playing doctor with him. This week he came home with a very red butt...complains that it hurts, itches and he won t say if anyting happened. Also a filthy home..could it be pin worms or would you assume something more serious

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello sir/madam,
I am highly concerned about you foster son's health. Red buttocks per se are due to many reasons, which causes excessive itching in this area, one of them is pin worm infestation. You should just get consulted with your pediatrician, if required stool examination and some blood tests will be justified. Till then just apply moisturiser to the affected area, keep it clean and dry there after. Thank you
