Redness On Buttocks, Itching, Foul Smell, Bleeding. Jock Itch Or Fungal Infection?

Hi Doctor. I believe I have a fungal infection , jock itch maybe? Around the outside of my butt cheeks is all red and extremely itchy, particularly on humid days and when I sit down for prolonged periods. It has a funky smell to it when I scratch like a fungus (also bleeds at times.) I also have a similar situation going on between my toes..not as bad though. Is it jock itch or something more serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Gary,
Thanks for writing in.
It does sound like a fungal infection. There are several things you can do for this:
a. Apply Lotrimin ointment on the affected area ( on the buttock cheeks and between the toes)
b. Have a bath twice daily, especially after you play/exercise/sweat
c. Keep the area clean and dry. Its important to dry the skin between your toes as well
d. For the itching, you can take Tablet Cetrizine 10 mg once daily for 1 week.

This should take 1-2 weeks to resolve. If it does not resolve, please see your physician.
Regards
