Reddish Blotches On The Abdomen. What Are These?

Hello, Between my left nipple and my belly button, I have had for some time (at least a month) 3 irregularly shaped blotches that are at the wides point, about 1 1/2 inches across. The skin is smooth and not sensitive to the touch. The 3 blotches do not have well defined edges. I think that the color is not always the same. Right now, they re a reddish brown color. At times in the last few days or weeks, they have been both lighter in color and redder. What might this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear concerned.,

As per the submission the blotches appear to be echymoses/purpuric spots due to deficiency in capillary integrity (may be due to lack of Platelets in blood) leading to subcutaneous release of capillary blood as the resolution occurs when time progresses the colour lightens up. Any h/o febrile illness in the recent past?

Kindly get your general physical examination done by a Physician/Internal Medicine specialist
along with complete hemogram especially Platelet Count/Blood Urea nitrogen(BUN) and Creatinine estimated.

Meanwhile empirically T.Vit C 500 mg PO daily and if irritaion/itching occurs Lotio Calamine to the affected area will be very helpful.

Please avoid Aspirin or any other painkillers and also Alcohol as they are likely to aggravate the condition.

Get well soon.

Best regards.,
Dr Lt Cdr ASN Bhushan.
