Recommend Treatment Or Medications For Anxiety And Related Symptoms

Hi, I am feeling extremely odd. I have anxiety and am on an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant. I just do not feel like myself. I feel as though I am really not here, yet I know I am. I do not know how to explain it correctly. I do now know what to do.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to health care magic.
I am Dr Alok Sinha, MD Psychiatry from India. I can understand your concern. I will try my best to answer your query.
I have carefully read your question and could understand that you are having an anxiety disorder. As you told that despite medication you are not feeling well.

I have concern for your suffering. Anxiety is such an illness that makes a person very weak, restless and fearful. I can understand that it may be extremely difficult for an anxious person to explain his symptoms. I will help you in finding more information about your illness. Kindly go through the below mentioned lines carefully:-

Anxiety may occur to any body. There are many sign/symptoms of anxiety like increased heart rate, palpitation, chest discomfort, chest pain, breathlessness, choking sensation, flushing of face, excessive sweating, dizziness, heaviness of head, headache, blurred vision, dryness of mouth and throat, churning sensation in abdomen, tremors, frequent micturation/defecation, feeling as if surrounding has changed (derealisation) or self has changed (depersonalisation), fear of going mad, inabilty to stand on ground and fear of impending death etc.
You could name at least two of them:-
1. De-personalisation:- "I do not feel like myself" and
2. De-realisation:- " I feel as though I am really not here, yet I know I am"

You may recall some more symptoms in you.

If a persons like you comes to my clinic, I tell them to relax and to do some changes in lifestyle like-
- have good balanced diet, regular mediation, yoga, exercise etc
- have adequate rest, sleep and recreation
- avoid alcohol, caffeine, nicotine or any other drug
- listen some relaxing music at evening.

I also counsel them, give psycho-education about their illness and prescribe some anxiolytic medications for cure.

Certainly you need professional help.

I suggest you to consult a psychiatrist who can prescribe you some anxiolytic medicines and teach you some relaxation exercises. There are good medicines that can make you feel relived and better within a day, but for cure you have to continue anti anxiety medicines for few months.

Hope it answers your query. I wish you all the best.
