Recommend Help For Social Anxiety Disorder In Males

Hello, I am 25 years old male. I am suffering from social anxiety disorder from a very small age. From age 17 it has become a larger problem and it seems to increase day by day. I get feared at social functions, large people gathering, criticism, bully by people, girls, even I fear to attend my class and exam in fear of humiliation. What should i do? From this forum's public question I found that medications for social anxiety disorder cause erectile dysfunction. Please help me from my cursed life.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Social anxiety is one of common anxiety disorder. The symptoms like fear of social function, difficulty in large gathering, fear of criticism, difficulty in talking to girls, exam fear are really humiliating. The treatment of social anxiety consists of both medicinal treatment and psychological treatment. Medicines like SSRIs are used. Fluoxetine, Sertraline etc are commonly used drugs. They can cause side effects like delayed ejaculation and anorgasmia in high doses but these side effects are reversible. Erectile dysfunction is not a common side effect of these drugs. So there is no reason to fear from medicines. If your symptoms are really distressing then you need consultation of a psychiatrist.

Psychological treatment is also equally efficacious but takes time to show results. Assertive training, behavioural therapy are commonly helpful.

Thanks, hope this helps you
