Reasons for left sided chest pain other than heart

OTHER THAN A HEART ATTACK...what kinds of things could cause left sided chest discomfort? Like around the breast, and in the rib area, and a burning in the shoulder blade? Please, do NOT say Heart attack...I asked OTHER THAN A HEART ATTACK...what other things could cause this. It has been going on for around 2 months now, give or take a week. I have been to the doctor and am currently waiting test results, that I should be getting Monday, so I am looking for ideas now of what could be going on. I am 26 year old female. QUit smoking around 2 months and 3 weeks ago. Having chest soreness, and discomfort, along with some panic attacks. Occassional shortness of breath, but it isn t bad. Never lasts longer than a minute or two. Doesn t happen often. The chest soreness is there almost all the time. Activity does not increase it, infact, often times, activity helps it. Any suggestions would be appriciated! Thanks. Please don t say go to dr. ALready went.

Below is a great article for you: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20051115/2012.html One of the tables lists the most common causes of chest pain in the US vs UK and in the ER. There is no doubt that musculoskeletal pain is the most likely cause in your age group, only 26, gets better with activity, etc.. However, the key point in your history is the fact that you have panic attacks. This is classic for patients often feeling like they have a heart condition, when in fact, they have anxiety. The fact that you have panic attacks confirms that your chest pain is most likely psychosocial/psyciatric in nature. Also, your recent smoking cessation may also be contributing to your anxiety. There are medical options to help you with this, such benzodiazepines or other anti-anxiety meds. Either way, most docs will rule out a heart condition with the complaint of chest pain so they don't get sued, it's ridiculous, you're only 26. Not to say it can't happen, but a thorough history and physical exam would have been enough in your case, but we're in America where people love to sue, so hence all the tests.... What a waste of money. Anyways, hope you feel better.

I have pain in the left side of my chest below the breast but near the ribs. It hurts if I try to take a deep breath or cough or If i strain to go to the bathroom. it also hurts when I move into a lying down position or when getting up. I feel it when walking. It feels like the burning sensation you get when you ve had surgery but I haven t. It started 8 days ago and has not gotten any better. My back is starting to hurt now from compensating for the pain. I was in the ER on day 4 because my doctor wanted me to go there for obvious reasons - to rule out any heart-related issues (which was ruled out). They also checked for a blood clot in the lung which was ruled out. The ER doc said it was viral pleurisy but I don t have a cough, etc. It feels more like some kind of trauma-related pain / condition. I do not believe it s pleurisy but what else can cause this kind of pain? It feels more like some kind of tear or something?

Hi i am a 31 year old female my height is 5 4 and my weight is 158. I have had severe left sided chest pain for going on almost six years now and i have tried it all. I have had a full heart work up, countless x-rays, acupuncture, physical therapy, narcotic therapy, intercostal nerve block, radio frequency ablation, trial spinal cord stimulator and many other things but nothing has helped my symptoms or situation. i also have some other medical issues i have GERD which i am on meds for, i have autonomic disorder, and had superior mensentary artery syndrome which i had surgery to correct. My symptoms get worse when i lay down or when i swallow or eat anything especially when it is cold. I have had two menomatries done to see if i had espohical spasms but i dont. I just want my life back and anything you could suggest would be helpful because my doctors and advanced pain management locally dont know what else to do. thank you

my friend is male, 58 yrs. Had a heart attack 3 yrs ago and had a bypass. He had a mild heart attack last month no bypass.Today at his check up his cardio. dr. said that he has an 80% blockage in 4 artries not counting the ones bypassed 3yrs ago. These blockages are in places where there is a 75% chance that an operation would kill him, according to the dr. The dr said that my friend is a walking time bomb, gave him 6-8 months and added that stress, strain, physcial exertion could cause it to happen quicker.I know diet and exercise are very important in keeping a healthy heart. Is there ANYTHING my friend can do except wait?

Hi, My father is 63 years old. 2 days back he suffered a chest pain for a long time when he was walking for quite sometimes. He did some chest examinations and after he was shown a cardiologist he told that apart from a blockage in heart there is a small miocadial infarction.
I don't stay with him and i really don't know what is the his health condition and what is the immediate doable for him.
He is fine now. Some medicines are given. I don't understand was it a heart attack because the doctor haven't told like that.
I stay in Bangalore and is in Kolkata. Pls suggest the immediate doable and places where treatments would be good.
