Reason For Lump In The Thigh?

My boyfriend has a lump on his inner thigh about 2 inchs below where his scrotum hangs. (I apologize for the lack of tactfulness). It is painful, but does not have any discoloration or discharge. It seems to be on the muscle of his leg. It feels larger when he presses on it. Any ideas on what this might be?

Very good description in fact.
This looks to be most probably a sebaceous cyst or a lipoma or at the most boil going into an abscess.
Consult a surgeon to get this confirmed and treated properly before some complication occurs.
