Reason for child having a lump in the neck?

Hello, we noticed tonight that my 5 year old girl has a lump on the side of her neck. It is a little over an 1 long and 1/2 inch wide. She has been complaining of her neck hurting over the past serval days. There is no signs of anything else going on. She does have asthma. Do we need to be concerned?

Hi,
there are several causes of painful lump on the side of neck area in a child like swollen lymph node either due to infection, tumour, injury etc, any cyst like sebaceous cyst/ abscess, hematoma formation following injury or bug bite. Asthma is not directly related to swollen lymph nodes but can occur following infection. you should consult a paediatrician as soon as possible. some physical examinations along with history and some investigations like total blood count, DLC, FNAC of lump and chest x ray will help for reaching at proper diagnosis to your doctor.
Take care of her, bye.
