Hi k heather don't worry,herpetic infections are viral in origin and will subside after running its course.Mostly after 10-14 days symptoms wear off so my suggestion to you is wait and be patient,have plenty of fluids and eat well and avoid any stress..Since you are in a middle of the episode most likely you will be relieved soon .Get well soon.

as you mentioned you have an outbreak of genital herepes there is very slim chance of you getting affected by herpes on tongue as genital herpes or herpes on one side of body is mainly caused by HERPES ZOOSTER and oral herpes(in mouth) is caused by HERPES SIMPLEX (type 1 or type 2) .although there are chances herpes can affect any part of body.
you need to see a dentist (oral surgeon)as well as skin specialist to rule out the exact diagnosis and get medication for the same , one need to take medicines for herpes as its boils are painful and get infected causing more complications.
