Random Thoughts In Head And Anxiety Attacks Even While Taking Risperidone

Hi Dr. Rangadhar, When i was about 5 years old i suffered from cerebral malaria and had psychosis which lasted for about 1 month. On my 19th birthday last year i tried weed for the first time and suffered anxiety attacks, paranoia etc . I had random thoughts in my head and anxiety attacks for about 3 months after that, i wasnt hallucinating or anything. I believe i was taking risperidone and some other medication. However, i am a very spiritual person and my beliefs require me to smoke herbs (particularly blue lotus, which contains nuciferine and aporphine) for meditation. Am i at risk of developing psychosis? I have no history of psychosis in my family. Thank you.

Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Yes you are at risk to develop psychosis. Cannabis produces psychosis in people who are predisposed to develop psychosis. The fact you have developed psychotic symptoms after taking weed suggests that you should refrain from the further use of weed for this purpose. Meditation is possible even without taking cannabis and you should try those options.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
